Understanding Personal Branding
- Definition of Personal Branding: There are various definitions of personal branding and different interpretations of branding. However, it is simply the reputation of the business, the quality of the service or product and values that are demonstrated with every interaction of the brand. This can also mean the feeling that someone gets about the brand or interacting with the business owner. Best-selling brand expert Marty Neumeier explains in his book The Brand Flip, that “people don’t buy brands, they join brands”. He also adds that “A brand isn’t what you say it is, it’s what they say it is”. People want to belong to a movement or a tribe that they feel in alignment with.
- It is important to develop, demonstrate and articulate your unique identity and how it relates to your business.
- One should really ask, what do I want my clients to think or feel when they think about my business.
- The role of personal branding can attract clients, establishing trust, and differentiate your business from competitors.
Key Elements of a Strong Digital Footprint
- Consistent Online Identity: Importance of maintaining a unified presence across all digital platforms, including social media and your website. Some business owners do not like the spotlight; however, you have to be present and show up consistently to be top of mind.
- Content Strategy: How to develop valuable, consistent content that aligns with your brand and engages your audience? Well, you must do some research, get to know your target audience and what they type of content they like to consume. Many content creators speak about creating content that is valuable. What does that really mean? It means giving your audience actionable solutions, tips, and information to their painful problem. You can offer free PDFs, Guides, Checklists, Articles and Videos that are educational and inspiring. It is strongly recommended to provide a mix of content and then track that your audience is gravitating towards. For example, if they tend to like short videos on YouTube, then that’s what you should create more of.
- Social Media Presence: Leveraging platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook to build visibility and community is a must. Perhaps it can seem overwhelming to be active on all platforms, so you can focus on 1-2 platforms where you target audience visit the most.
