Dream Big
Dream Big
“Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
What is your dream? Do you see yourself as an improver, an advisor, a healer, a hero, a superstar, a visionary, an analyst, a fireball or an artist? These are all ways that entrepreneurs have been described and I think it is a perfect way to describe most of you. In my business I have learned a lot about people’s dreams and one thing I know for sure is that if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough.
Just for the moment, imagine that you have all the time, all the money, all the education, all the experience, all the friends, all the contacts, all the resources, and everything else you need to achieve anything you want in life. What does that life look like? Project yourself into the future, say 5 years from now. What are your typical days like, where are you living, who are you helping, what are you earning?
Create a vision for yourself. The more clear that vision is, the faster you can move towards it. For the last five years I have had an index card above my desk on the wall that has three questions on it. How can I serve and help? How can I bring more value? How can I reach more people? I have been amazed by the opportunities that have come my way.
Speaking of which, there has been a lot of excitement these past two weeks with the NNBA. The launch of the new website has been well received and we are hearing from many of our members how much they are enjoying the exclusive membership area and how the information is formatted. Also, thank you so much for the many well wishes; I really appreciate hearing from you and learning about many of you.
In the last two weeks we have seen one to two individuals a day becoming new members of NNBA and have seen past members renewing their membership. In fact I am looking at a software application that allows members to see my schedule so those of you that want to schedule a meeting with me can view my availability and select a time that works with your schedule. Of course you can always call (877) 353-8888 to reach me as well.
We will be taking over the production of the NNBA Newsletter. The current arrangement we have with a newsletter publishing company is coming to a close at the end of April. This allows us more direct control over advertising and promotion to over five thousand subscribers. I plan on having a Member’s Highlight section so we can let our members learn more about each other and several other plans are in the works for this newsletter.
Our plans for NNBA’s 29th Annual Conference are well underway. Our speaker committee has done a great job this year and I can’t wait to listen to all the presentations. I’ve had many members tell me how they are looking forward to hearing Dan Poynter’s Keynote presentation and pre-conference workshop on writing, publishing and selling your book as well as Keynote presenter Maureen Sullivan who will keep us motivated and laughing. I promise to have a full agenda on the website soon where you can learn about all the speakers and topics.
The vision of NNBA is to provide the premier environment for members to connect with business-minded nurses to:
- Provide up-to-date insight into industry needs for RN business services
- Offer business training customized for nurses, continuing education and career development
- Maintain a networking arena to encourage and develop business and social relationships

Don’t let your dreams scare you, let them fuel you…
