Las Vegas Conference
Choices, Chances, Changes…
On the way to Las Vegas
Chapter 7 in my book is titled “Leaving the Comfort Zone”. I devoted a chapter to stress how important it is when making changes and dealing with changes that we just learn to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. It is human nature to resist changes especially those that are imposed on us. Wow, have I had to take my own advice and re-read this chapter! When our previous hotel venue for this year’s conference decided to close its doors; it set off a chain reaction that took a great deal of work to resolve satisfactorily. In reality, like we see many times with change, it ended up being for the better and I am thrilled with this year’s hotel. So, I am going to share some pictures from this past weekend’s road trip to Vegas and a few comments so you can look forward to attending the conference!
For those of you driving out of the Los Angeles area, Peggy Sue’s Dinner is the midway point of the four hour drive. Love Peggy Sues food & ambience of the 50’s. Crazy good gift shop too!
Liquidation sale starts tomorrow at the Riv. Out with the old and in with the new! And I mean new. New rooms, restaurants, bars, pool area, fitness facility and spa. Met with the fabulous hotel staff, Jennifer, Chris and Wayne and dined in Westgate’s Steakhouse for a late dinner. Deliziosa!
This is the beautiful new pool area in a picture taken from our room. Note the tennis courts to the rear and there is a golf course to the side. The Fortuna is right off the elevators and in open 24 hours a day. I love my coffee (hotel’s Starbucks brand) so its location is one I check out early in our stay!
One of the best things about this hotel is that the monorail is out the side door. It encircles the strip and you don’t have to walk or take a cab. For $5 and in less than five minutes we were dropped off at Paris and on our way to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
From the top of the Eiffel Tower were beautiful 360 degree views, this was of the Bellagio and Caesar’s Palace. The fountains of the Bellagio (show with music) are breath taking to watch from above and on the street level. The gorgeous Venetian glassworks inside the Bellagio are one of my favorite sites.
Inside Caesar’s Palace is a foodie haven! We had one of the best lunches I have ever had at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill. Hell’s Kitchen winner will be the executive chef at Gordon Ramsey’s Pub & Grill and the always popular Wolfgang Puck’s Spago is a stop during my next visit.
Saturday evening we had tickets to The Elvis Experience at the Elvis Presley Theater. Wow! We were treated to seeing an exact show as Elvis performed in 1972. This is not an Elvis impersonator but rather an actor selected by Graceland to faithfully represent the king. And represent he did! Next visit, we are going to the Elvis Exhibition which is a permanent part of this landmark hotel.
We (Lou and our 12 year old daughter) left to return to Orange County Sunday morning after we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Sid’s Café. From the wonderful hotel staff that reassured me that the National Nurses in Business Association was in good hands to experiencing so many great moments in Las Vegas. The trip home was full of smiles.
