NNBA Nurse Entrepreneur News – 03/15/2020

I’m starting this newsletter by making sure you know how good you are, and to thank you for the good you are doing. At this moment, Covid-19 continues to spread, and last week the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a Pandemic. There are ramifications beyond simply what the virus is, how well it will be diagnosed, and how it will be treated. Ramifications on family gatherings, such as weddings and birthdays, that may or may not be shuffled. Visits to our elderly family members and loved ones will be curtailed. Many of you, I know several NNBA members, had speaking engagements, conferences, and travel plans that were cancelled. Plus, with so many schools closing, and students having to remain home, schedules that nurses heavily rely on are being severely tested. So take a moment, and know that you are held in high esteem. Your scientific knowledge, reason, resilience, and spirit of compassion will see you, and our worldwide community through during these challenging times.

This year the NNBA celebrates 35 years in business. Since the NNBA was founded, the ranks of nurse entrepreneurship has increased substantially. The NNBA is the vanguard of the nurse entrepreneur movement and we credit the active participation and contributions of our richly resourced membership. We are marking this special occasion, and the Year of the Nurse with publishing the 4th edition of “How I Became a Nurse Entrepreneur”. You will be able to submit your story, or if you have already been published, your update. We will give you the links and further instruction soon. Your story may be the inspiration and motivation allowing more nurses to expand their wings into business!

In 1962, Time Magazine called him “the most sought-after wizard in today’s advertising industry.” David Ogilvy attributed his successful marketing campaigns to the meticulous research he did on the consumer. Some of his clients were Rolls Royce, Shell, and Dove. He coined the phrase, “Only Dove is one-quarter moisturizing cream,” that made Dove the top selling soap in the U.S. Enjoy our first article of interest, Marketing Quotes from the Father of Advertising. As you decide what to call your startup or new small business, here are some Questions to Ask When Naming Your Startup. This article will help you think of a name in ways you may not have considered. “I am fortunate to find myself in a career that I truly believe in. When you’re passionate about the work you do because you feel that it will ultimately help make your community a better place, others will see your drive as genuine. As a leader, appreciate that you don’t have all of the attributes needed to meet your objectives. Surround yourself with a complementary team and empower them to find ways to carry the mission forward. Do not underestimate the importance of making time to share your appreciation of others. Most of all, try to not take things personally — assume positive intent, have fun and be kind.” Karen Amezua’s thoughts really resonated with me, and, there is a pot of gold in each of the 14 Thoughts on Leadership from Women in the Healthcare Industry.

The NNBA provides business education, opportunities, and a networking arena. We are Nurse Entrepreneurs,  Business Leaders, and Mentors; an organization of Nurses Helping Nurses Succeed in Business.  Regarding the conference, we are monitoring the situation with Covid-19 and will  send you information if anything changes. For now, place September 25-27th on your calendars to join hundreds of business minded nurses in Las Vegas, Nevada for NNBA’s Flagship Event – Nurse Entrepreneurship and Career Alternatives Conference. Stay tuned for registration details, and don’t miss any announcements by following NNBA’s Facebook page.
