Optimism for 2019

[What possibilities will 2019 bring to you? As I reflect on 2018 and plan what I’d like to accomplish next year, I am very cognizant of the opportunities that may arrive that are unplanned. For example, when writing the post below from 2014, I did not have an inkling of becoming the president of the NNBA. I just knew I wanted to serve the nursing community by sharing my expertise from the business world. Having an optimistic outlook attracts opportunities and I look forward to hearing from you during the upcoming year. A very special link is at the bottom of this short post that will allow you to print out “The Optimist Creed”; one of my favorite things. Happy New Year! #NNBA2019]

Optimism
“It is the possibility that keeps me going, and though you may call me a dreamer or a fool or any other thing, I believe that anything is possible.” – Nicholas Sparks

Today was my daughter’s first day back to school and my first day back to pre-Holiday routines. I’m back in the swing of things and feeling very optimistic about the future. One of the biggest accomplishments for me this past year was my book getting published and having so many nurses give me such positive feedback! I was truly touched by the heart felt comments and am grateful that my book resonated with so many nurses. My coaching programs have been well received and I have really enjoyed getting to work with people on a one-on-one basis. All of these things were once a dream that I had a few years ago, of taking my business expertise and turning it specifically towards serving nurses. I love seeing how a plan comes together and one of my favorite things is helping nurses develop strategic and business plans. Another one of my favorite things is this writing of Christian D. Larson. I know that “The Optimist Creed”, used to be widely publicized. It was in many sports locker rooms and on hospital walls. Most people that I talk to today have never read it so I wanted to have it in the first blog of the new year.

The Optimist Creed

Promise yourself
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past, and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.
To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

– Christian D. Larson 1912
