RNs Sales of Healthcare Products
Nurses Who Sell Healthcare Products or Design and Manufacture Healthcare Products
Nurses are often interested in selling healthcare products or have an idea for a new product that improves the comfort or health of their patients. Some nurses are natural salespeople who do well selling wellness products, health foods, and nutritional supplements. Sales is a perfect fit for the nurse who is interested in the health of her patient from a holistic viewpoint. These nurses can supplement their income with sales of these products or use the sales as their only income stream.
Startup for RNs selling products
The startup process for selling products is quick and easy. Just sign up to be a distributor for a company who sells the product. Contact the company on the Internet or in person. The company will send you a startup sales kit and teach you how to sell their products. You may also receive a discount if you buy the product for your own use.
Business Opportunities for Selling Products
Dealers are individuals who purchase the right to sell products distributed by another company, such as vitamins or holistic medicines. The individual often advertises himself or herself as an authorized dealer. Distributors usually sell to dealers and a dealer sells directly to customers. Licensees are individuals who purchase the right to use the seller’s trade name and certain methods, equipment, or product lines. As a nurse you could become a distributor, dealer, or a licensee. It’s your choice.
Multi-level marketing popular with nurses
Multi-level marketing is very popular with nurses who are looking for a part-time, flexible business. The best known ones are Avon, Tupperware, and Mary Kay. Typically the individual purchases a sample kit and receives the opportunity to sell directly to family, friends, and personal contacts. Not all states regulate multi-level marketing. At the time of this writing, 25 states had laws in place. The state laws differ in content and definition of terms.
Vending machines
Vending machine opportunities are less known. The vending machine company provides the machines and the locations; the individual restocks them and collects the money.
Healthcare products designed and manufactured b RNs
Over the years, many nurses have designed and/or manufactured their own products. Not all nurses have brought their products to market. The process is as follows: First you have to come up with a unique idea for a product and then write it down so you can capture the idea. Go to the U.S. Patent office website and look to see if the product is already patented or if someone has a product similar to yours. Consider if the idea needs the protection of a patent. Some do not. Draw the prototype. Make the product. If after testing, you still consider the product to be worth your time and effort, start making the item. Make 100 or so units and sell them. Continue your marketing efforts and grow your business.
The process sounds easier than it actually is. If you have a product idea, email me and I will provide you with resources and information to help you bring your product to market. Email me with any questions about RN self-employment or RN business ownership.
