Tip Sheets for Entrepreneurs

How to Write Tip Sheets for Free Publicity

A tip sheet is a list of six to fifteen tips that show off your knowledge. They explain to the reader how to perform a certain task or solve a problem. The title indicates the topic covered.

Examples of  Tip-Sheet Titles

Example of titles for tip sheets to show off my knowledge:

  • Twelve Ways to Get Your message Out with Effective Advertising
  • Six Great Subjects for Tip Sheets
  • Six lines to Use for a Perfect Press Release
  • Five Ways to Get Speaking Engagements for Free Publicity

Tip Sheet is Not Advertising

A tips sheet is not blatant advertising. They provide information that the reader will keep and pin on their bulletin board. The tip sheet will last longer than your business card or brochure. It should not be limited by time-dated material. Again, proofread, proofread, and proofread the sheet. Use a simple straightforward layout, one that is clean and bold and make your tip sheet fit easily on one page. Make sure to include all your contact information and invite the reader to e-mail you with questions or comments.

The tip sheet can be used as a handout at seminars and meetings and you can leave them with any customers. Customers will thank you for leaving them and save them for years. When I speak at a hospital, they discourage any brochures or “advertising.” Sometimes, I am asked to sign an agreement that states I will not distribute advertising. There is never any question about distributing a tip sheet.

What are your ideas of a tip-sheet topic to help your business?
